We've talked a lot this fall about the thinness of the Arizona Football linebacking core. The group is so shallow in numbers that Marquis Flowers had to move down from safety, Jake Fischer, just returning from injury, had to play all 94 snaps against Toledo and they started a walk on.
A walk on who may demand respect for his play sometime in the future, but exudes respect right now from his name alone.
He wears number 53 and his name is Sir Thomas Jackson. That's right, Sir Thomas Jackson.
The freshman from Seattle's O'Dea High School was given the Sir part of his name from his aunt. Everyone has been calling him Sir T for short since he as about seven years old.
But how does a walk on freshman work his way into the starting lineup?
1) Be coachable. 2) Have an energetic work ethic that never ceases.
Sir T had five tackles against the Rockets and felt comfortable right from the start.
"I just played with confidence," said Jackson. "You know just going out there and getting my run fits and just going out there and trying to slice some heads up."
But back to the name, Sir Thomas Jackson. Just how many times does he get asked about that?
"Everyday at least three times a day," the freshman joked.
Jackson is expected to start again this Saturday against Oklahoma State. It'll be the ninth meeting in the series between the Wildcats and Cowboys and third in less than two years.
Before that these two programs hadn't hooked up since the 1940s. Oklahoma State holds a 5-3 advantage against Arizona.
