Flash flooding is possible in Southern Arizona on Monday and Tuesday, First Alert Meteorologist Aaron Pickering said Sunday night.

An area of pressure is driving unusually high levels of moisture in the region, he said.

"The pressure center will move closer to Yuma by Monday and this will increase our storms chances across eastern Pima County Monday and Tuesday," Pickering said.

The thunderstorms could drop heavy rain and likely will move slowly.

Rain chances will decrease by the middle of this week.

The First Alert Forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms Monday.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for central Pima County, including the Vamori Wash west of Sells, until 12:45 a.m. Monday.

At 7:49 p.m., a river gauge on the Vamori Wash reported a high water level at 9 feet. If it rises to 9.5 feet, State Highway 21 likely will be impassable.
