The Oro Valley Police will be able to fine drivers double for moving violations in construction zones.
There are several construction zones in the area. Some are on state owned roads and others are on town roads. On state roads fines can be double, however on town roads there was no ordinance.
The town council approved the double fines in a meeting last week. However there was a disagreement on when the fines should be doubled or not. Four members of the council voted for fines to be doubled only when construction workers were at the site. There were three votes including Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath that wanted the fines doubled 24/7.
For example in the City of Tucson and the Town of Marana, there are fines for moving violations in construction zones. The max penalty is $250.
Starting on October 19th, Oro Valley Police will be able to issue doubled fines in construction zones for moving violations
