TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The Sunnyside Blue Devils must play their final three games of the season on the road so they could not afford a stumble on Senior Night against winless Cholla.
It wasn't pretty early. The first quarter was a sloppy whistlefest but the Blue Devils in the end were much too good for the Chargers (0-7), winning 47-14 to raise their record to 5-2.
Sunnyside used two blocked punts early to setup their first two touchdowns. Steven Seanz provided the first. Senior quarterback Christian Oropeza turned that into a three-yard touchdown run and 7-0 lead.
On the Chargers next possession, Kevin Hernandez broke through the line to get his hands on a punt attempt and once again the Blue Devils had a short field for their offense.
This time Oropeza found Dominic Martinez on a perfect five-yard floater to the back of the end zone.
Martinez later scored on a 70-yard touchdown run.
When Sunnyside running back Daniel Bonn found a hole over the right side and scampered into the end zone for a 14-yard score, the rout was on.
