TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

City leaders are asking you to get out this Saturday and tackle the trash in front of your home, and in alleys and parks.

In a press conference Monday morning, the Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation for Operation Clean Sweep.

We asked Mayor Jonathan Rothschild what the city was doing to keep its streets clean.

He acknowledged they have a street sweeper but it's up to the residents to pick up trash on their sidewalk and property.

Rothschild said, "We're going to start here with asking citizens to participate. After that you're looking at code enforcement. We don't want to go there if we don't have to. After that we're looking at really stretching resources in a way we've never had to before."

If you're wanting to participate, city officials ask you to avoid streets with speed limits more than 25 miles an hour, and to wear sunscreen and drink lots of water.
