TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women's soccer team came up with a 1-0 triumph over the Utah Utes on Sunday afternoon in a double overtime thriller.
Arizona (6-10-3) junior Shannon Heinzler scored the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in the second over-time period to give the Cats a 1-0 victory. In the win, junior Jazmin Ponce attempted five shots and Ana-Maria Montoya registered two shots.
"It's exciting for us because that's how we wanted to send our seniors out," head coach Lisa Oyen said. "There have been a lot of tough losses we have walked off this field with. This is the last impression we are having and this is the one we want to leave, especially for the seniors."
Utah (8-7-2) out shot the Wildcats 19-12 with Ashton Hall, Baylee Nielsen and Katie Taylor leading the team with four shots apiece. Goalkeeper Lindsey Luke recorded three saves for the Utes.
In the net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman propelled the Wildcat defense with 11 saves in the match.
Up next, Arizona travels North to conclude the final match of the 2012 season against Pac-12 Conference rival Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 2 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
