Southern Arizona received positive economic news this week as FC Tucson announced it is bringing in five more Major League Soccer teams.
Spring training starts Jan. 29.
The teams include: Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City.
There will be a total of nine professional soccer teams coming to Tucson for spring training and pre-season matches - making Tucson MLS's western hub!
The lineup for the Desert Diamond Cup also includes the New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution and Real Salt Lake - all returning from last year - and the Seattle Sounders, who replace the LA Galaxy.
The Desert Diamond Cup final is played on Feb. 23 and will be nationally televised.
It is going to be a huge winter for Tucson. We'll have the Rodeo and Rodeo Parade; Accenture golf and a bigger MLS spring training - as well as national exposure from the Desert Diamond Cup.
Tucson is becoming the western hub for soccer, proving it doesn't need Major League Baseball to be an attractive sports destination.
