TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women's soccer team
dropped a 2-1 decision to Arizona State Friday night in a Territorial Cup
matchup at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
Arizona (6-11-3) came out strong on
defense holding the Sun Devils scoreless for the first 51 minutes of play. The
Wildcats trailed 1-0 until the 66th minute when freshman Hannah Wong
registered her first goal of the season to tie up the match. Senior Jessica
Culver led Arizona in shots with four and teammates Ana-Maria Montoya and
Jazmin Ponce registered two apiece.
For Arizona State (10-8-2), freshman
Courtney Tinnin scored her third goal of the season in the 51st minute
off a pass from Alyssa Freeman to put the Sun Devils up 1-0. Tied 1-1 with 2
minutes remaining in regulation play, freshman Cali Farquharson scored the
winning goal off a pass from teammate Devin Marshall. The Sun Devils outshot
the Wildcats 23-11.
In the net, Arizona goalkeeper Gabby
Kaufman recorded eight saves while Arizona State goalkeeper, Chandler Morris,
recorded three saves.
For the 2012 season, the Wildcats
finish with a record of 6-11-3 overall and 2-7-2 in conference play.
