Tucson, AZ (Tuesday, November 6, 2012) — Former FC Tucson midfielder and current Portland midfielder Colin Anderson was named Academic All-District 8 First Team on November 2. The honor means Anderson is now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors.
"It's an honor to be recognized on this list, with other student-athletes from prestigious universities such as Stanford and UC Davis," said Anderson. "The fact that I am now eligible for academic All-American honors is something that I feel is very important; being not just an athlete, but a student-athlete. Overall, I'd say that it is just exciting to have received these honors because of all the hours spent both on the field and in the classroom working hard."
Anderson appeared in nine matches for FC Tucson for a total of 640 minutes and recorded five shots. At Portland Anderson has appeared in 17 matches and scored two goals while recording two assists for six total points.
This isn't the first time Anderson has been recognized for his academics. In 2011 he was a West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention. And in 2010, Anderson earned a West Coast Conference Winter All-Academic Honorable Mention.
"We're all very proud of Colin's academic achievements, " said FC Tucson general manager Jon Pearlman. "We at FC Tucson place the highest value on education. To see one of our former players, especially a Tucson native, excel both on the field and in the classroom is a major point of pride for our organization."
