New details in officer-involved shooting

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man in custody after an officer-involved shooting earlier this morning has been identified.

The incident happened before 2 a.m. on Alvernon between Glenn and Flower.   

Tucson Police Officer Eric Altman pulled over a vehicle in a traffic stop.  Altman asked the passenger, identified as 35-year-old Jason Brown, to exit the vehicle. According to police, Brown would not listen to Officer Altman. 

According to TPD, Brown proceeded to get out of the car. As Brown moved to the rear of the vehicle, Altman perceived a threat.

Altman fired his weapon, according to police reports, but no one was hurt.  The passenger tried to run, but was tackled by a bystander and police were able to arrest him.  The driver fled the scene in the car. But, he later returned to the scene and was released by police.

Brown was arrested for unlawful possession of narcotics and booked into Pima County Jail.

According to TPD procedure Altman, a 5-year veteran of TPD, has been placed on administrative leave while the case is being investigated.
