Great white shark spotted near surf competition

MONTEREY BAY, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Andrae Martinez of California took some incredible video of a great white shark on Sunday, and you'll be surprised at who was in the water nearby.

The shark sighting happened at the same time as the "Coldwater Classic" surfing competition was also taking place in Monterey Bay.

The video shows a 14-foot great white swimming under the small fishing boat Martinez was using as he was fishing in the bay about a quarter-mile off the coast of Santa Cruz.

Twenty surfers, including Kelly Slater and Hawaii's John John Florence, were in the water for the tournament, which was won by Taj Burrow.
