TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey has been named the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Week and the National Running Back of the Week, it was announced on Sunday. Carey recorded a historical performance in Saturday's 56-31 win over Colorado, giving the Wildcats (6-4, 3-4 Pac-12) their sixth win of the season and bowl game eligibility.
Against the Buffs, Carey ran for 366 yards on 25 totes and five touchdowns. He also had two catches for 34 yards for a total of 400 all-purpose yards. On the season, he has totaled 1,381 yards on 224 carries on the ground with 30 receptions for 281 yards and a total of 1,678 all-purpose yards.
His 366 rushing yards set a new Arizona and Pac-12 Conference single-game rushing record, breaking the previous UA best of 288 by Trung Canidate in 1998 and the previous league best of 357 by Washington State's Rueben Mayes in 1984.
Carey's 366 rushing yards are the most by any player in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) this season, surpassing New
Mexico's Kasey Carrier's 341 yards against Air Force on Oct. 12. The total ranks No. 9 all‐time for single‐game yardage in the FBS and is the most since Central Michigan's Robbie Mixon collected 377 against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 2, 2002.
Nationally, Carey ranks tied for No. 2 with 1,381 rushing yards (leads Pac-12), tied for No. 5 with 18 rushing touchdowns and tied for No. 4 with 19 total touchdowns, No. 2 with 1,662 total yards from scrimmage (leads Pac-12) and No. 9 with 1,678 all-purpose yards (second in Pac-12).
In seven conference games, Carey has 1,037 yards on 165 attempts with 13 touchdowns. He averages 148.14 rushing yards per Pac-12 game and has run for 100 yards or more in five of the seven contests. He's tied for the Pac-12 lead with seven 100-yard rushing games overall.
Arizona will travel for its final road game of the regular season with Saturday's 8 p.m. MST kick at Utah. The Wildcats will wrap their home slate on Fri., Nov. 23 with a contest vs. Arizona State. Kick time is set for 8 p.m. MST and will air on ESPN.
