Happening today, the American Cancer Society is encouraging Tucson to join thousands of other Americans and kick the habit during the Great American Smokeout.
Tucson has a leg up on the Smokeout already, soon many smokers will not be able to smoke around any of the city buildings downtown, due to regulations Pima County passed earlier this week.
There might be not better time than today to quit smoking.
The American Cancer Society is encouraging all smokers to put down the cigarettes during the Great American Smokeout today. The thinking behind it all is if people can quit for one day, then why not for life.
The average person has 10 unsuccessful quitting attempts before they finally kick the habit.
One way Arizona is helping others do this, resides right here in Tucson at the University of Arizona.
The Arizona Smokers Helpline, known as Ashline, is a free service helping Arizonans quit smoking. People just call in and can get coaching over the phone.
Many of the coaches understand what it takes to quit smoking because many of them have quit smoking themselves.
