El Tour de Tucson helps many charities including Tu Nidito

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Some of the 9,000 cyclists met Friday with the children who will benefit from El Tour de Tucson.

One of the primary charities it benefits is Tu Nidito. On Friday night, a "meet and greet" was held for cyclists who have raised more than $500 each to help kids who have lost a loved one or are battling an illness such as cancer.

There are more than 170 riders taking part in the 5th annual "Ride For A Child." Many of those riders are getting to meet and visit with the children they are paired with.

All of the riders in El Tour de Tucson are helping this charity - and may not even know it. Fifteen dollars was built into the registration fees.

Tu Nidito says it's on track to raise $300,000 this year. Of that money, $130,000 is expected to come from "Ride For A Child."

Around 50 pairs attended tonight's dinner.

The Forest Service said Tuesday’s high winds, coupled with dry vegetation and low relative humidity – is a formula that can create massive wildfires. Like the Aspen Fire on Mt Lemmon that burned 84,000 acres in 2003.
