TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Tucson News Now has learned that police detained a person of
interest in connection with the shooting of a Tucson police officer.
Sgt. Robert Carpenter was shot in the head early Sunday
morning.
Tucson Sgt. Maria Hawke said, "At this time, we can
confirm that a person of interest has been detained. There have been no charges
brought against the suspect or any other persons at this time."
Carpenter was shot when he was responding to an alarm at
a midtown home near Broadway and Alvernon. It was the second time in a period
of a few hours that the burglar alarm went off.
He was rushed to the University of Arizona Medical Center and is
recovering from surgery. Tucson News Now has been told he was responding to
questions and his surroundings.
When police arrived at the scene after the first alarm, they saw a man running away
from the home, but after a massive search, police did not find anyone.
