The battle for "The Territorial Cup" brings ASU and U of A fans from around Arizona and from out of state to Tucson this year. Not only do they come to watch the rivalry, they plan to spend money locally.
The line at The Fix was almost out the door a few hours before game time. The restaurant is just off of University and has only been open since August. This was their first taste of "The Duel in The Desert" crowd. "I was like wholly cow, half of me was like I want the line to stop, the other half was like keep coming you know," said Mollie Romero assistant manager at The Fix. The place was crowded with people, at one point the line was close to out the door. The increased foot traffic was noticed right away. Romero said, "It definitely helps the business, we just did about $400 in a couple hours due to the fans, so thank you fans."
The fans weren't just buying food and drinks. The Campus Athletic store was kept busy too. This was a red-out game and Arizona fans were encouraged to wear red. Anything red at the store was quickly being scooped up. Tori Kersch a manager at Campus Athletic said, "Yes, today is much busier than any other football game that we have, because ASU is our big rival. The crowds also forced the store to have more employees working tonight.
Depending on the outcome of the game, the cash registers along University Blvd. could be opening and closing late into the night.
