Holiday DUI Task Force makes 61 arrests

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Officers from the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force hit the streets over the Thanksgiving holiday, looking for impaired drivers.

As of Sunday morning, officers made 61 arrests, including three people arrested on felony DUI charges. 16 people were arrested for Extreme DUI, with a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher. Officers also arrested eight people for DUI charges who were under legal drinking age.  

A total of 73 officers contacted or stopped 2,205 drivers during the holiday deployment.

In addition to patrols, officers conducted a sobriety checkpoint on River near La Cholla on Saturday night.  

The Task Force includes local officers from TPD, Marana Police Department, UAPD, Tucson Airport Authority Police Department, the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the National Park Service, and DPS.
