A man who was struck and killed by a train in Tucson on Sunday has been identified.
According to a news release from the Tucson Police Department, Charles Heffington, 62, was hit while lying or sitting against the outside of the track behind the AMTRAK Station at 400 N. Toole Ave.
Crew members on a westbound train saw Heffington and immediately activated the emergency brake and sounded the horn, the release said. The train was unable to stop in time.
Union Pacific Railroad Police and Tucson Fire Department emergency personnel responded at 9:40 p.m., and Heffington was pronounced dead at the scene.
