TUSD forum on 'unitary status' plan tonight and tomorrow

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Unified School District is looking for input on a new plan to help the district end its decades old desegregation order.

TUSD is creating a ‘unitary status plan' to get out from under the federal oversight of desegregation; the case dates back 30 years.

Some believe this new plan could be the beginning of bringing back the controversial Mexican-American studies program in some form.

There are two more meetings this week.  One is tonight at El Pueblo Regional Center, and the other one is tomorrow at Palo Verde High School.  Both forums will go from 6 – 8:30 p.m.

TUSD will submit the finalized plan next month, after it hears from the public.
