TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Unified School District continues to move forward with its plan to close schools, and tonight parents are speaking up.

As leaders continue talks on which schools to close, parents are voicing their concerns.  Families from Brichta Elementary say they are pushing back.

Tonight they are hosting a community forum in the Brichta cafeteria, petitions are already being signed by parents and surrounding neighborhoods opposed to the possible closure.

They are inviting families from Menlo Park Elementary, a nearby school also on the chopping block.  The Brichta Parent Teacher Organization says they have come up with a couple of options to try to partner with TUSD and come up with positive solutions.  The Brichta PTO has drawn up two plans to present in the community forum tonight.

Plan A proposes to keep Menlo Park and Brichta open but close Maxwell.

Plan B proposes to move Brichta to Maxwell and become a K-8 school.

Right now some parents are saying one option they do not want is a merger between Brichta and Menlo Park Elementary.

These are the suggestions the group will present to the community, at the forum tonight at Brichta Elementary School (near West Grant and North Silverbell roads) in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.

We have a link to the options by the Brichta Parent Teacher Organization. The document was scanned and may be difficult to read in some areas.
