Tucson Police are reminding drivers about the importance of paying extra attention to the roads this holiday season, especially at crosswalks.
Like those in the area of Campbell and Elm, near UAMC, which is currently under construction. One sign many won't see is the pedestrian crossing signals at the intersection.
The button to activate the signal can be pushed and pushed, but the sign to cross doesn't light up; they are currently out of service.
Tucson Police may be out next to the hospital to make sure pedestrians can safely cross the street. TPD is also saying they don't have any planned deployments scheduled for the UAMC area, but they have said they will deploy officers on an as needed basis.
There are a lot more cars on the road this time of year, and officers want drivers to look for pedestrians in all crosswalks; the same goes for pedestrians too. TPD is advising only to cross where it is allowed and move quickly across the road.
For a while drivers and pedestrians may see TPD officers in the Campbell and Elm area to facilitate that over the next few days.
