Pima Co. sees 1st confirmed flu case

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima County reports that it has seen its first confirmed case of the flu in what health officials expect may be a worse than normal season.

The University of Arizona Medical Center says a seriously ill 11-year-old boy was hospitalized Thanksgiving Day and is recovering.

Federal health officials say if you haven't gotten your flu shot, now is the time to get one.

The nation is seeing its earliest start to flu season in nearly a decade, and one of the strains circulating hits especially hard.

Fortunately, this year's vaccine matches up well with the strains they are seeing as is expected to be effective in fighting it.
