Morning update on police activity near Columbus and Grant

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

**Update on police scene at Columbus and Grant.  A Tucson Police officer noticed a robbery in progress and stepped in to help. 

The alleged robbery suspect fled from officers on foot, but was caught just a short distance away from the scene, according to Tucson Police.

While struggling with the suspect one of the officer's weapons went off, TPD reported. The officer had his weapon out and did not have a chance to holster it before dealing with the suspect. 

According to police the weapon was not pointed at either the suspect or anyone else when it went off.  There were no injuries reported.

Charges on the suspect are still pending, said a Tucson Police Department spokesperson.

There appears to be two crime scenes that Tucson Police are working. It is happening near the Circle K. 

The area should be avoided.

    Border Patrol Agent Jed Eckler was traveling on Highway 92 on his way home from work when he was flagged down by a man and woman with an infant. The woman informed the off-duty agent her son was unconscious and not breathing.
