UAMC to get more 'fun' for young patients today

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Happening today, UAMC is receiving a special gift that helps hospitalized children have some fun.

Staying at a hospital can be tough, and no fun at all, that's why fun centers have become an important addition at UAMC.

Today the hospital receives this special gift from the Starlight Children's Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping sick children and their families.

Northwestern Mutual, a financial services company donated the money for these new centers.  Right now UAMC has eight fun centers, and you can never have too many of these.

Fun centers are mobile; they roll up to the side of a child's bed or just about anywhere in the hospital.

This new fun center has a Nintendo Wii, DVD player and a flat screen TV.

In many situations these kids are anticipating surgery, having long outpatient treatments or feeling lonely after visiting hours are over.

Northwestern Mutual will dedicate the new fun center today at 2:30 p.m., at Diamond Children's
