First public hearing for TUSD closures

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Tucson Unified School District is preparing for their first public hearing this weekend.  14 schools are facing closure and a full house is expected for the hearing.

Many families and neighbors surrounding the schools will be attending this first TUSD public hearing, as well as many more parents, students and community members.

The district is gearing up for their first public hearing on the 14 school closures, there will be one more public hearing before a final vote is made.

The Board is required by law to hold the hearings before finalizing any school closures.  Should the school board approve any closures, changes would not go into effect until the 2013 – 2014 school year.

The meeting is tomorrow at Catalina Magnet High School, near Pima Street starting at 10 a.m.

The second meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 10 at 6 p.m., and is also at Catalina Magnet High School.  TUSD has scheduled the final vote on closures for December 20.
