Overnight fire destroys Tucson sushi restaurant

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A two-alarm fire early Sunday destroyed a southeast side Tucson restaurant.

Tucson Fire Captain Jeff Langejans tells Tucson News Now, just before 3:00 a.m. seven people called 9-1-1 to report smoke coming from the Oishi Sushi restaurant on East Golf Links near South Kolb Road.

Crews arrived at the scene eight minutes later, and found heavy smoke and fire in the attic space.

Langejans says as firefighters continued to fight the fire, conditions began to deteriorate. Fire crews then called for a second alarm, requesting additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.

Langejans says it to 43 firefighters 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

There were no injuries reported.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
