What's next for Marcus Lattimore's knee injury? - Tucson News Now

What's next for Marcus Lattimore's knee injury?

With professional football in his sights, Marcus Lattimore is moving on.

Now that he's taken that step, rehabilitating his injured knee is priority one.

Dr. Evan Ekman from Southern Orthopaedic Sports Medicine couldn't speak about Lattimore's specific injury , but told us in general what Marcus could face at the NFL combine early next year.

"The first part of the combine is a physical examination," said Dr. Ekman. "He'll rotate through a number of rooms represented by four NFL team physicians. He'll undergo a physical examination, will almost certainly get an MRI on both knees. I would anticipate, in most significant big injuries, his physician down in Birmingham would probably suggest not doing much of the field exercises at all."

That means Lattimore will depend on a team willing to make an investment based on what they've already seen.

Ekman said with the right kind of determination Lattimore could still find great professional success.

"History has shown us that injuries of great magnitude to the knee, Willis McGahee is a perfect example, may take some time to recover," said Dr. Ekman. "But once they have been rehabilitated properly, he could expect, with the proper amount of drive and determination, to have a lot of success."
