The chaos in Connecticut and the shooting at an Oregon mall earlier this week have once again reignited the debate over gun control across the nation. Especially here in Tucson.
The events have brought up the issue of gun control once more and one local man says stricter laws wouldn't have made a difference since the shooter was too young to even buy a gun in the first place.
The tragedy caused the gun control conversation to resurface here in Tucson and across the country. Susie Hileman - a victim of the January 8th shooting - posted to Facebook saying "If Jenny and I are brave enough to speak out... what are you waiting for?" Along with that she sent a link to an on-line petition for stricter gun laws -- which has more than 2,800 signatures.
But, that doesn't sit well with Todd Rathner, a board member on the National Rifle Association.
"The anti-gun community comes out and asks for more gun control but they're not specific about what they want," said Rathner. "We really know what the problem is, insane people are going out and doing horrible things."
President Obama did mention in his speech today something needs to be done, politics aside. He did not specifically address gun control.
