41-year-old man faces felony charges after fatal accident

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The driver who allegedly turned in front of 22-year-old woman on the southwest side Saturday morning, killing her, has been arrested on five felony counts.

Robert S. Ballesteros Jr., 41, was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and aggravated DUI. He also faces two other charges of criminal damage.

The accident around 2:45 a.m. Saturday at South LaCholla and West San Marcos killed Mandie Scammell.

Police say Ballesteros turned in front of Scammell at the intersection.

Ballesteros and another person in his vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ballesteros was booked into the Pima County Jail after he was released.
