Local police will refresh their skills today, in case a shooting like the one in Connecticut happens at a Southern Arizona school.
The active-shooter training was already scheduled, this isn't the only way Tucson police are responding today.
When school starts parents, students and staff will be seeing more police cars at schools, but police will be involved in a more active situation on another side of town.
The police department had a training already scheduled for today. The active-shooter training includes multiple suspects and multiple victims.
Officials say some of the most important and difficult training points includes fighting the human instinct to help the fallen, until the officers know the shooter or shooters are no longer a threat.
The training is happening at Reynolds Elementary on the southeast side.
In addition to the training, police will actively increase their presence especially at the beginning and end of school days.
Police and school officials want to reiterate that there have been no similar threats made here.
There is no timeline for how long this extra enforcement will last, but it could be until winter break.
