Salvation Army asking for donations for Christmas meal

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Salvation Army is asking for donations of food for this year's Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day at the Tucson Convention Center.

The Salvation Army needs turkeys, hams and frozen pre-baked pies in addition to the bulk items listed below.

Last year's Christmas event served over 3,000 meals.

"I'm short about 700 turkeys. We're going to have to reach into our coffers and try to see if we can purchase turkeys and do it as well," said Major Edward Markham, Salvation Army Corp. Officer.

Hundreds of turkeys are needed to hand out to families in need and cook up for Christmas dinner. The situation right now is critical.

"We've always been able to get resources somewhere, people come through but I'm not sure that's possible this year. We just don't see a lot of people coming to the door and helping us this Christmas season," said Bill Carnegie.

Food donations are being accepted at The Salvation Army, 1001 N. Richey and The Hospitality House, 1021 N. 11th Ave.

Financial donations can be mailed to 1001 N. Richey Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716 (Attention Christmas Dinner).
