County gives Marana options to resolve wastewater dispute

MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima County is giving the town of Marana a way out of a long-running tussle over a small wastewater treatment plant.

Marana fought for years to get control of the county's Luckett Road facility before a 2011 state law forced Pima County to give Marana control.

However, operating and upgrading the plant has been more difficult and expensive than Marana expected.

Pima County is now offering to take back the plant, but give Marana credit for recharge of effluent from the town which would help developers in Marana get new sewer service.

If Marana accepts the deal, state lawmakers would still need to repeal the 2011 law.
