Flowing Wells H.S. to show support for Sandy Hook students

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Happening today, students at a local high school are lending support to the Sandy Hook students; teachers said the students wanted to help, but didn't know how.

At Flowing Wells High School both before and after school for the next two days, students are creating a tribute of their own to Sandy Hook Elementary.

It was all started by a junior, who came to one of her teachers, feeling helpless.  This is the plan she came up with.

A booth in front of the cafeteria, decorated with green and white paper, Sandy Hooks colors, with markers, letters and cards.  Students can write a message on the paper that will then be folded into origami flowers or cranes and linked together into one big chain.

The hope is that all of this will be shipped to Connecticut on Friday.

Flowing Wells did something similar after the mass shooting on January 8.  One of the teachers said what is different this time around is that because the high school students are older than the Newtown victims; they feel like they can help more, like it's their responsibility.

Students expect the booth to be pretty busy before classes start.
