TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Today crews delivered and installed the traction power substation on the University of Arizona campus.
The substation will power the streetcar line which will run from the UA campus through Fourth Avenue and Downtown Tucson, to the Westside.
The first cars for the street car are supposed to be up and running by
the end of next year.
According to the Associated Press, some
officials say the opening day of operation for the streetcar line could get
pushed back from October 2013 to late spring or early summer of 2014 as the
company that was hired to build the city's street cars continues to experience
production delays.
