NOGALES (Tucson News Now) - Border Patrol agents arrested two smugglers and seized 2,553pounds of marijuana, worth more than $1 million, in several incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Agents from the Nogales Station and the Horse Patrol unit seized 12 bundles of abandoned
marijuana yesterday morning east of Nogales, Ariz., weighing 271 pounds and worth an estimated $135,500. In another incident, Nogales agents discovered seven bundles of abandoned marijuana weighing 335 pounds with an estimated $167,500.
Willcox Station agents working at the Highway 90 checkpoint arrested the driver of a sedan after discovering two subjects in the trunk who were illegally present in the U.S. The vehicle and all subjects were transported to the Willcox Station for processing.
Nogales Station agents, assisted by Nogales Police Department officers, responded to a possible narcotics smuggling attempt and discovered an abandoned pick-up truck containing 75 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,646 pounds and worth an estimated $823,000. One man was arrested.
Wednesday morning, Nogales agents and a canine unit patrolling east of Nogales, discovered six bundles of abandoned marijuana with a combined weight of 301 pounds and valued at $150,500.
