TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Buena received goals from Brooke Madden, Larissa Lee and Michaela Cody to beat Ironwood Ridge 3-1 Thursday afternoon in the final day of Pool Play at the Tucson Champions Cup.

The victory all but assured the Colts (8-2-1) a berth in Friday's bracket play.

The top two teams from each Pool, in terms of points, will play for the Championship.

Madden opened the scoring in the 14th minute when she beat Ironwood Ridge goalie Megan Logue off a perfect pass by Cody.

Cody's goal later in the first made it 2-0 Colts at the intermission.

Sara Bock scored the lone goal for the Nighthawks (7-4-2) in the second half. The sophomore got a clean shot past Closs when Colts defender Anna Sanchez lost control of the ball behind her leaving Bock all alone to the left of the goal.

IRHS had a chance to tie minutes later but Buena 1st-year goalie Kelsea Sloss made an aggressive sliding tackle to thwart the effort.

Sloss, a former midfielder, has made a solid transition to netminder as senior.

Lee iced the game in the 62nd minute when she beat Logue to a free ball to give Buena a 3-1 advantage.

Despite the loss IRHS still had an outside shot of advance thanks to a shutout win over Salpointe Catholic and a 0-0 tie with Cienega.
