What do travel numbers look like for the holidays this year? AAA Arizona has released their projections for holiday travel, with nearly 1.9 million Arizonans driving somewhere this holiday season.
Some reasons why numbers could be up this year as compared to 2011 are fuel prices. In 2011 the cost of a gallon of gas was $3.156, while this year it is only $3.104 a gallon; this means for travelers less out of pocket spending for fuel. On average they spent $770 in 2011, while only spending $694 this year.
There is a marked difference between ground and air travel this year – only 137,000 will travel somewhere by air, while over 1.9 million will drive. Distances have also increased from 2011; the average distance was 961 miles, while in 2012 it has gone up to 1,038 miles.
