Law enforcement to 'step up' DUI during holiday season

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The holidays are a time to celebrate, but police want to make sure that celebration doesn't include getting behind the wheel after one too many.

Between Thanksgiving and New Year's is one of the deadliest times on the road.  Authorities here in Tucson are hoping it's smooth traveling for everyone over the next few days.

With the holidays definitely comes an increase in the number of people who are driving under the influence, but authorities are hoping to counter that by increasing their presence and the number of DUI patrols and check points.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is just one agency that has been stepping up its enforcement throughout the entire month and will continue to do so through the new year.

It's already been a deadly weekend in Ohio, where police believe that drunk driving was the cause of an accident that killed four people and seriously injured two children.

That is why authorities are reminding everyone to not drink and drive, and designate a driver.
