TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The University of Arizona Medical Center launched a partnership to help meet the needs of patients with limited English or who are
deaf/hard of hearing.
Through its partnership with Language Services Associates,
UAMC receives 24/7 access to American Sign Language and foreign language interpreters
on a computer screen within moments.
The service is available on the hospital's laptops and
within minutes a patient and clinician can see and hear the remoter interpreter
as if he or she were in the room.
The new program also allows UAMC access to more than 200
languages via a telephonic interpretation support system. In less than 30
seconds, a doctor can reach medically qualified interpreter via telephone.
