THREE POINTS, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Three Points woman was injured in a shooting at her home Wednesday.

According to Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Peine, the shooting occurred during a home invasion at the woman's home.

Shots were fired and the 61-year-old woman returned fire. She was shot in the chest and a medical helicopter responded to her mobile home in the 9000 block of South Desert Well Road, located near South Sandario Road and State Route 86.

The victim is in critical condition but stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.

"When I heard she got shot, I just cried. When Life Flight came, I just started praying," said a neighbor who requested not to be identified.

"What we can tell from looking at the scene is that there was an exchange of gunfire. Multiple shots were fired at the location, otherwise the information we have is very limited," said Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Peine.

Investigators say the bullets pierced the walls of the home and multiple shell casings were found all over the property.

It happened in an area where neighbors typically keep an eye out for each other.  A neighbor says they did notice something out of the ordinary. "My husband said when (the suspects) went by the first time the (vehicle's) windows were up and were dark tinted. When they left, windows were down and the only person we saw in the car was the driver. He was going so fast, we couldn't get the license down," she said.

There is no word yet on suspects, but deputies say a gold car was last seen leaving the scene. It is still not known if that car was related to the incident.
