Now that students are out of the classroom, there is a chance for them to continue the learning, hands-on in the great outdoors of Saguaro National Park.
The camp is located in the west district of the National Park, and it is all about having fun and appreciating the natural beauty of the area.
The ‘Wilderness Exploration Camp' is for children from 10-14 years old. The camp runs all day today, tomorrow and Saturday.
From the morning and into the early evening, the campers will learn and practice hiking and exploring; as well as learning to use a map, a compass, and GPS in a night hike through the desert. Campers will also learn during the camp how to pick a camp site, pitch a tent, and to cook with a back pack stove.
The camp is all about learning to be safe in the wilderness and enjoying the great outdoors.
This is the only camp being offered this winter break, and reservations have already closed. But the National Park will offer more openings next time there is a break from school.
