Arizona Athletics confirmed Friday that All-Pac 12 Softball shortstop Shelby Pendley has left the program for personal reasons.
Pendley is one of the best young players in the nation and was expected to fill a substantial role both offensively and defensively on Mike Candrea's 2013 squad.
UA Communication Services provided the following comment from Candrea:
"We wish her the best moving forward."
Pendley hit 19 home runs and drove in 55 runs last season as a freshman while batting .331.
She is the 4th key female athlete to leave Arizona in the last calendar year in moves that don't appear to involve lack of playing time.
Volleyball setter Chloe Mathis, a likely four-year starter, left Tucson at the conclusion of the 2012 season.
Freshmen basketball players Aley Rhode and Erin Butler, opted out of Niya Butts program after their initial seasons.
Arizona Softball now faces the start of winter practice January 7th without it's two most important players, Pendley and ace pitcher Kenzie Fowler who continues to recover from back surgery performed early in the Fall.
