Overnight fire follows bomb threat at Tucson convenience store

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are looking for the cause of an early morning fire at a northwest Tucson convenience store, where someone had earlier reported a bomb threat.

Tucson Fire Captain Jeff Langejans tells Tucson News Now, the store manager of a Circle K at Flowing Wells and Roger roads noticed smoke coming from near a pallet of shipped goods and called 9-1-1. just before 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

Langejans says crews arrived to find heavy black smoke rolling out the front door. They entered the store to knock down the fire, and to make sure there was nobody inside.

Langejans says someone had called in a bomb threat earlier in the morning. Tucson Police investigated, and found nothing. Langejans says it was decided at the scene that the Bomb Squad would be notified again due to the timing of the fire.

Damage is estimated at $150,000. Langejans says smoke damaged all of the contents inside the building.
