Pima County 'tobacco free' for 2013

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima County will start the New Year as tobacco free environments.  Signs will note county owned properties are a ‘smoke free' zone, starting with the downtown complex first.

This new policy was passed by the Board of Supervisors in November.

For visitors and employees in the downtown complex who smoke, the ban means a slightly longer walk.  No longer will smoking be allowed in the areas between the county buildings.

Community centers are also included in this, but smoking in the city-owned Presidio Park is still allowed.

Pima County officials say the policy ensures non-smoking employees and visitors won't be exposed to harmful smoke as they travel between buildings.
