Everyone can start the New Year with fresh air and exercise by taking part in first day hikes.
If your resolution is to start the New Year off on a healthy note, then first day hike could be one way to do just that.
This is the second year of the National first day hikes program. Hikes are included with standard day use entrance fees at many Arizona state parks.
There are all kinds of hikes to choose from, depending on the park. There is something for the whole family; some hikes are recommended for kids and many offer a way to learn about desert wildlife and plants.
Many start in the morning, but there are a few hikes that start early in the afternoon. Also depending on the park, those interested in hiking may need to make a reservation.
