Steve Spurrier, Brady Hoke ready for Outback Bowl "battle"

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and Michigan coach Brady Hoke had very little news to reveal on Monday morning before Tuesday's Outback Bowl.

The 18-minute news conference had a lot to do with each team's quarterback situation.

Spurrier says he hopes to get both his guys, Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson, plenty of playing time. Shaw will get the start after battling a nagging foot injury for most of the season. Thompson last played in the win against Clemson back on Nov. 24.

However, the Head Ball Coach says he hopes Shaw will play for most of the game.

"He's been our starting quarterback," Spurrier said.

Elsewise, Spurrier says his team is ready for Michigan.

"Preparation-wise, I think we've done a pretty good job thus far. We haven't had any distractions, haven't read where we've had to send anybody home, no guys missing curfews, so I think we've got two mature teams getting ready to battle out there tomorrow," said Spurrier.

The feeling is at least mutual, according to Hoke.

"I think coach and I are both ready to play a football game though, maybe not us two play, but I think our kids are ready to go play a football game, and we look forward to it," said Hoke.

Meanwhile, Hoke says quarterback Devin Gardner will get the start over senior Denard Robinson, who has had an elbow injury for parts of the season.

The Gamecocks and the Wolverines will kickoff on New Year's Day at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
