A fire destroyed the roof of a home in the 2100 block of East Pinal Vista early this morning. No one was home during the fire in the home near Kino Pkwy. and 36th St.
Firefighters say 50% of the house was involved in heavy smoke and flames when they arrived, with the majority of the fire appearing to be in the back of the house.
Crews immediately went to the roof and cut a ventilation hole with chainsaws to allow the smoke and fire to escape.
Crews punched holes in the ceiling and sprayed water into the attic, extinguishing the fire in 18 minutes.
Firefighters conducted two searches on the house to make sure no one was trapped inside and both searches confirmed no one was home at the time of the fire.
The damage to the home was estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
