UPDATE: Tucson police say an elderly man missing on the southeast side has been found safe.

He has some scrapes and shows some effects of exposure to the cold, but appears to be in good condition, according to a news release.

He will be returned to his residence after a medical evaluation.

The Tucson Police Department is asking for help locating an elderly man who was reported missing this morning in the Rita Ranch area.

Genaro Chavarria, 92, is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5'8" tall, 160 pounds, with gray, balding hair.

He was last seen wearing a brown and white plaid flannel shirt, jeans and black tennis shoes.

Chavarria has been diagnosed with advanced Alzheimer's. On previous occasions when he has left the residence, he became confused and was not able to remember how to get home. In those instances, he was located walking in the Rita Ranch area, generally in the vicinity of South Nexus and East Rita Road.

He is not familiar with the bus system and does not have any access to money.

The overnight temperatures dipped to 30 degrees, significantly increasing the concern for his well-being. Mr. Chavarria did not take a jacket with him or other clothing items to keep him warm.

Anyone who might have seen him or have information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
