Investigators may not know the cause of a fire in the historic Wig-O-Rama store until Wednesday when they can bring in heavy machinery to clear out debris. Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department says the structure is too unsafe for investigators to go inside.
The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and involved the Wig-O-Rama and the unit next door which used to be the Grill restaurant. Investigators tackled flames in the attic of the Wig-O-Rama, while the former Grill suffered more damage.
The Wig-O-Rama was eligible for grants a couple of years ago to help renovate the storefront. The grant required matching funds from owners, but the structural updates never happened.
