According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there were eleven 2012 weather disasters that each caused over a billion dollars in damage.
The combined total of lives lost is estimated at 349. According to NOAA the largest number of deaths occurred with Superstorm Sandy. The loss of life added up to 131 deaths directly related to that storm.
